Getting Your Calendar Ready
|
As the new year begins, it’s a time to prepare for what’s ahead. Take down the holiday
decorations and throw away last year’s calendar.
Whether you keep a paper or electronic calendar, having and using a calendar can help you
save time and money while you stay on the path to being more organized.
First, repeat after me, “My calendar is my friend. It will be my guide to never missing another
appointment and remembering every birthday.”
With a little planning and commitment to your calendar, things can flow a little smoother and be
overall much less frustrating.
Here are a seven quick ways to make your calendar a regular member of the family:
1 Annual Planning: Don’t throw out your old calendar yet. Review it and transfer key dates to
this year’s calendar. Look for birthdays, anniversaries, or any other special annual event and
record them for the coming year. (Then throw out the old calendar!)
2. Social Engagements: If you already have plans for concerts, parties or weddings, make
sure to include them on your calendar. That way you’ll remember to plan a special outfit or a
babysitter!
3. Auto & Household Equipment Maintenance: Grab the manuals for your car and other
major household equipment (i.e. furnace). Check to see what maintenance or service
requirements are coming up and mark them in your calendar. From oil changes to rotating the
tires, putting these key dates on your calendar will help you to be stay on the road with ease.
4. Health Check-Ups: Don’t forget your own maintenance needs! Schedule your annual
physical, massages eye and dental care. Once you make your appointments, put the dates on
your calendars so you won’t miss them.
5. Financial Data: We give charitably throughout the year….and sometimes not so charitably.
Whether donations, medical or major household expenses, making a note of each financial
outlay can make tax preparation easier next year.
6. Daily Planning: It’s important to keep your calendar maintained on a daily basis. Every lunch
appointment, meeting, conference call or time commitment should be plotted on your calendar.
It’s only then that you’ll be able to stay on top of your schedule and avoid frustration from late or
missed appointments.
7. Keep Your Calendar Close: It does you no good to leave it behind. Take your calendar
with you wherever you go. You’ll only reap the benefits of having the calendar if it truly becomes
a habit.
Paper or electronic, it doesn’t matter which you choose, as long as your
calendar fits your style, keeps you on track and goes where you go.
Happy Planning!
